John addresses something we know about, but not something we often think about deeply.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
Darkness is real. There is a dark side to this world. And there is darkness in each of us. Jesus shines into that darkness and Jesus is greater than the darkness
John adds more in chapter three.
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. John 3:19
When we are honest we are apt to admit that there is a side of us that is drawn like a magnet to sin.
And Jesus adds this…
I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12
The way out of darkness; the way to fight darkness is to follow Jesus closely. Daily, hourly, intentionally.
